DMX with COBRA

Friday, April 10, 2026

2:45 PM - 3:45 PM 1 hour

DMX stands for Digital Multiplex and was created in the mid-80s as a standard communication protocol for controlling lighting fixtures. Since then, the DMX protocol has been used to control a wide variety of SPFX (special effects) hardware devices including: lights, flame projectors, cryo jets, fog, spark machines, bubble machines, and more.

A simple Amazon.com search for “DMX lights” shows the variety of devices available for this protocol. In short, DMX is a way to control hardware devices that do cool and fun things.

Integration with COBRA: Any device that supports a DMX input can integrate with COBRA, enabling synchronized SPFX and pyrotechnic effects.
  • What is DMX?
  • DMX SPFX options available (smoke, cryo, flame, light, etc.)
  • How COBRA generates DMX with the 18R2 and 36M/72M
  • Fundamentals of DMX (universe, channel, value, and pulse time)
